BRITAIN’S GOT GREAT FOOD - 1st June – 3rd July 2009
BRITAIN’S GOT GREAT FOOD is one of the latest food focused promotions from CH&Co Catering Ltd. Running for 5 weeks during the summer of 2009, it took customers on a culinary tour of the UK with a different region featured in each week.
’Visiting’ five regions of the UK we started in Scotland, moved on to the North of England, then down to the Midlands of England and Wales, including the South West of England and South Wales, and ending in the first week of July with the South East of England.
BRITAIN’S GOT GREAT FOOD gave us the opportunity to showcase some of the great home-grown products we all know and love as well as exploring a few unusual recipes that we have unearthed from history . more info >
Regional Food – an introduction by David Cavalier, Food Director
Whilst putting together this promotion and researching different dishes it became quite clear that many dishes seem to have origins in many different areas and regions. So, a definitive decision on as to where many of the where they originally stated will depend on your own perspective.
One thing, however, is quite clear; we do really have something to shout about from the top of city towers or from the peaks, hills and mountains of this grand nation of ours. This country produces some of the best ingredients in the world. Our culinary heritage has influences from the far corners of the world, and I believe that we ought to be known as a nation of regional foods, as are France, Italy, Spain and countless others. BRITAIN’S GOT GREAT FOOD was shortlisted for a coveted 2010 Catey Award – Best Group Marketing Campaign. The glittering awards ceremony happened finally on Monday 5th July 2010 at the Grosvenor House Hotel in West London and we held our collective breath as the category shortlisted companies were announced.
The shortlist was just that – SHORT – but very illustrious! CH&Co was head-to-head with Compass Group, the Malmaison & Hotel du Vin group and Pizza Express. No pressure then!
The tension mounted as they described the success of the wining entry. It all sounded good until they reported that it had achieved a 17% growth in sales. BRITAIN’S GOT GREAT FOOD added 8% to ours so it was obviously all over for us. Compass Group was duly announced as the category winners and we took solace in the fact that we had made it this far, which is, after all, a fantastic achievement. There were apparently around 20 entries and they normally shortlist 5 of those for an award. To make it into the top 4 was an excellent result for us, and up against much larger marketing budgets than ours!
Well done and thank you to all of you who were involved, either directly or indirectly. We couldn’t have done it without you!
